While I haven’t mentioned it here on my site yet, I’m reasonably sure most everybody reading these knows that Terry’s knocked up.  Well, today we had her nineteen-week ultrasound and now can say proudly:

We’re gonna have a son.  I’m not gonna be quite so outnumbered around these parts starting sometime in October (though truthfully, it’ll probably be awhile before the baby can really pull his weight and help me even the biogender odds).

I was totally expecting a girl, even to the point where I’d become a big fan of certain names (fare thee well, Olivia-who-will-never-be) — but believe me, I’m jazzed (and a bit terrified) at the prospects of having a boy.  I feel like I have raising girls fairly well in hand, and I have no idea what I’m going to do with a boy.  Other than raise him with the exact same principles we use for our girls, I mean.

We don’t have names picked out yet, though we do have a very preliminary list.  Finding a name which is distinctive but not weird is far easier for us with girl names than boy names (or even unisex names), but we’ll figure something out in time.  For now, though, I’m going to use one of the names Laurel suggested on the way home:  Rockstar P Holt.

I’m sure I’ll have plenty of thoughts coming up on what it means to be having and raising a son — both the similarities to and differences from raising girls — so expect to see more coverage of the impending arrival of Rockstar P over the next few months.

(Boy!  We’re having a boy!)

So here we are again:  that time annually in which I tell Terry and all my various moms exactly how much I love and appreciate them.  I mean, I try to tell Terry that daily, of course, but it’s nice to have that one particular day in which we really focus on the moms in our lives and let them know how much we adore and respect them, how much we appreciate their keeping us, y’know, alive.  So Happy Mother’s Day, Terry and Mom and Margie and Beth! And to all of my mom friends out there!

And in celebration of the most important mom in my life, I give you a drawing I finished last night of my gorgeous wife, Terry:
