But now that the book’s 2/3 of the way done, I really want a particular situation to resolve itself in a good way and I’m fairly certain it’s not going to.

That’s excellent, that you’re not going to try to force the story somewhere it doesn’t want to go. And lookit you with your 2/3 done! Go you!

And….a comic book! That’s great news. Writing a comic book series seems entirely fitting for your particular strengths and interests. I’d like to read it someday, even if I don’t know much about the genre.

Yeah, seems to only make sense for me to do. :) And I know that I’m never going to be satisfied with myself if I don’t give it a legitimate shot. The last two nights have been the first steps toward me doing just that! (Last night, I wrote what I’m pretty sure will be the last scene in the series, if it makes it all the way to the end.)

This is such a timely post for me. I've never had problems putting my characters through the wringer. I like getting them into bad situations and then either getting them out or seeing how they react. I'm usually in Whedon's camp: his love for the story is greater than his love for the characters. But now that the book's 2/3 of the way done, I really want a particular situation to resolve itself in a good way and I'm fairly certain it's not going to. I really love the 2 characters involved in the situation and desperately want to tweak the story in their favor even though I know I shouldn't. So, thanks for this reminder. It's given me some much-needed perspective!

Of course, the good news is that I care about these characters enough to feel this dilemna. It has surprised me, the level of concern I feel for constructs of my own brain.
